Collection: Luxury Silk Eiderdowns
Every Gingerlily silk eiderdown is a custom piece, handmade to order in the UK. A 100% mulberry silk outer is paired with feather-and-down filling, creating a beautifully detailed final layer for the bed. Quilting, gathered frills, tailored pleats and contrasting reverse fabrics give each design its individual character.
Available in single, king and superking sizes, the collection brings together distinct creative stories. Forget Me Not and Lily Of The Valley feature Alice Edwards’ hand-painted watercolours, created as part of the Gingerlily x Memo Press collaboration. Fern is a separate Gingerlily design, taking a more tailored approach through botanical pattern, diamond quilting and pleated mocha edging.

FAQs
FAQs About Silk Eiderdowns
What is the difference between an eiderdown quilt and a duvet?
An eiderdown quilt is a smaller, decorative filled layer placed over the made bed, either spread across its surface or folded at the foot. A Gingerlily silk eiderdown quilt has a 100% mulberry silk outer and feather-and-down filling. It does not require a separate cover, allowing its pattern, quilting, reverse fabric and finished edges to remain visible as part of the bed’s overall design.
A duvet is the principal functional layer, designed to provide insulation throughout the night. It normally sits inside a removable duvet cover and is sized to provide fuller coverage across the bed.
Are silk eiderdowns suitable for every season?
Yes. A silk eiderdown is designed primarily as a decorative layer, so it can remain part of the bed throughout the seasons. Spread it across the lower half of the bed or fold it at the foot to display its pattern, quilting and finished edges.
When wanted, its feather-and-down filling can also provide additional coverage over the duvet. The duvet remains the principal source of insulation, while the eiderdown can be drawn further across the bed according to the room temperature and personal preference.
How should a silk eiderdown be styled on a bed?
Lay a silk eiderdown across the lower part of the bed to display its pattern and finished edges, or fold it back to reveal the contrasting reverse. For a more generous arrangement, extend it further towards the pillows while leaving the duvet cover visible around it.
Forget Me Not and Lily Of The Valley can be paired with coordinating pieces from the Gingerlily x Memo Press collection, while Fern can be carried across the room through the wider Fern collection. Alternatively, place a patterned eiderdown over plain silk bed linen and allow it to become the defining feature of the bed.
Can a silk eiderdown be washed?
A Gingerlily silk eiderdown should not be washed at home, but it can be professionally dry cleaned. Its silk outer, decorative stitching and feather-and-down filling require specialist care to preserve the eiderdown’s shape and finish.
Always follow the product-specific care label and avoid bleach, biological detergents, harsh stain removers, wringing and tumble drying. If the label permits washing or spot treatment, use a small amount of specialist liquid silk wash. For a complete clean or persistent mark, consult a professional cleaner experienced in silk and feather-and-down-filled bedding.
