Lucy Gough Stylist

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I'm an Interior Stylist based in London, however, I was born and bred in Sydney, Australia. I’ve lived in the London for about 7 years and still love discovering new things about this amazing city!

When did you start blogging and why?

I started my blog just before I left my job at Livingetc magazine. I felt I needed an online presence for my freelance career and I built it from there.

How did you decide to blog about interiors?

Interiors have always been my hobby, my passion and now, thankfully, my career.

How do you select what topics to talk about on your blog?

I like to give my readers advice on the latest interiors furnishings and accessories that are on the market; my first ever post became part of my series Bringing the Outside in, where I show readers how to bring the landscape into their homes through Interior Design. I still post about this topic regularly!

What advice would you give to people looking to start a blog?

Make sure it looks smart from the beginning. There’s no use in starting a blog with a basic design and thinking you'll re-design it in a year when you have time – you never will. Make it the best it can be from the word go.

How would you describe your interior style?

Bold, fresh, colourful and playful.

Where do you find inspiration?

When growing up in Australia, I found the landscape to be a big inspiration. I also find inspiration in films, as well as travelling to new and exciting countries.

Can you describe the style of your current bedroom?

Modern Japanese. We have a beautiful Japanese painting above our bed with contemporary Japanese side tables. Our walls are two-tone grey (dark at the bottom and lighter at the top). It's very serene!

What interior objects are you lusting over right now?

I particularly love the Shimmer Table by Patricia Urquiola for Glas Italia and the Acacia Rug from Woven. I think I'll only be able to afford the rug though!

What interior trends are you looking forward to in 2016?

The Iridescent trend of things being all beautiful, shiny and slightly translucent has definitely caught my attention. Namely, the Oil collection from Tom Dixon. I'm also looking forward to the geometric trend that we’ve already seen a bit of, as it will be trickling down to the high street in a big way soon!

Which article on Lucy Gough Stylist would you consider your favourite?

Probably my kitchen renovation 'before and after' feature. I am very proud of the transformation and, going by the comments I received, my readers loved it too!

What is your next interior project?

The next big thing that I’m working on is giving a talk at Heal's in April – to a packed room of 100 interiors-obsessed people – on how to style your home like a magazine! Have you started to incorporate the geometric trend in your home yet? Are you planning to? Let us know in the comments below!
